Frequently Asked Therapeutic Massage Questions

At A Touch of Caring Massage Therapy, LLC, we want you to be comfortable and confident going into your massage therapy session, so below are answers to some of your likely questions and concerns.

  • How long are massage appointments?

Massage appointments are normally 30, 60, or 90 minutes for table massages and 15 to 30 minutes for chair massages.

  • What should I wear?

Patients wear what makes them comfortable. Some patients like to remove undergarments while others leave them on. I recommend that you undress to your comfort level. Your draping is very important and only the area being worked on will be uncovered, then covered again before moving on to the next area.

  • Will the massage hurt?

A massage shouldn't hurt. If the amount of pressure is too deep, let the therapist know so the pressure can be decreased or adjusted. A deep tissue massage can be uncomfortable while releasing knots or adhesions, but you are in control of the pressure. Just talk to the therapist and let them know - you don't have to "grin and bear" it!

  • Do you accept insurance?

I do not currently accept insurance. I can provide you with a receipt and you may check with your insurance company to see if they can reimburse you. There are some HSA (Health Savings Account) accounts that may reimburse you as well.

  • Do you use scented lotions or creams?

I use scented and unscented gel lotion and creams for table massages and unscented oil for hot stone massages. Chair massages do not require the use of any lotions.

  • Do you talk during the massage?

Talking during the massage is up to you! I talk to my patients at the beginning of the message and then leave it to them to decide if they would like to continue to talk, or if they would prefer a quiet session. I will check in occasionally to make sure the pressure is good and to check to see if you're comfortable.

  • After the massage, will I be sore?

You shouldn't be sore after the massage unless your session involves deeper work in targeted problem areas. In this case, you may feel tenderness in those areas, which will quickly subside - leaving you feeling loose, refreshed, and rejuvenated!
